ON3P Ski Company Combines Practicality and Artistry

Named after the cross streets of the garage where founder Scott Andrus started building skis, ON3P became more than a hobby in 2009. In its sixth year, ON3P builds 1,400 pairs of skis per year in the Northeast Portland facility.

Steel-Toed Stiletto

Women are drawn to a pretty pair of heels—browsing department stores and boutiques for the perfect fit, the season’s latest trend, a pair of work-suitable kitten heels and so on. Micki Shampang-Voorhies is like most women, though noticeably different. Her own shoe collection, for example, is on the upside of a hundred pairs. Many of them she has never worn, nor ever will, because she considers high heels works of art.

A family business, Arrowhead Chocolates sold its first chocolate in 2010. Chocolatier and co-owner, Bruce Reininger, makes more than forty chocolate and filling combinations, hand-crafting over 100 pounds of chocolate per week.

My husband, Tom, and I were living in Camp Sherman on the Metolius River in Central Oregon where we owned and ran the Kokanee Cafe for twelve years. The resort business thrived but, by 2002 we were pretty tired and decided to sell.

Good JUJU App

After years of expressing her artistic skills on fabric and canvas, Julia Junkin moved into the electronic realm. Good JUJU, the Bend-based company she founded, released its first messaging app in June and puts Junkin’s art and the portfolios of about fifty painters, illustrators, photographers, graphic designers and typographers at the fingertips of anyone with an iPhone or iPad. By year end, the goal is to have 1,000 artists represented.
