Balance is a big word for Sadie Lincoln. It’s what her exercise studio, barre3, is based on and something she hasn’t always had in her own life. The 44 year old has worked in the health and fitness industry for more than half of her life, but for many years, she felt like a fraud. Stressed out, uncomfortable with her weight, and struggling with pain, she needed a new routine. “I felt like a failure because I was a leader in the fitness industry, but struggling to be healthy and happy,” Lincoln said. A moment of clarity changed her perspective when she realized she wasn’t failing fitness, fitness was failing her. “The rigid exercise and diet formulas I was following combined with the warped idea of beauty I was attached to left me depleted and unhappy,” Lincoln said.
Teaming up with her husband, Chris, and mentor, Mark Mastrov, the founder of 24-Hour Fitness Worldwide, Lincoln set out to create a new type of workout. Barre3 is a combination of yoga, Pilates and ballet barre exercises. Lincoln opened her first studio in Portland in 2008. Now, there are more than 100 studios franchised around the globe, including nine in Oregon. Clients come in all ages and fitness levels. Madonna’s famous physique has been chiseled by personal training sessions with Lincoln. Super model, Molly Sims, praised the online barre3 classes. After resetting her own life, Lincoln lives to help others achieve balance in their day-to-day life. “Healthy living is about choosing a way of life that empowers you to feel good in your own skin,” Lincoln said. “There’s no one way to healthy living—that’s what makes it so rewarding!
