Portland

BandSwap: Quick and Easy Boys with Muskateer Gripweed | September 20 | albertarosetheatre.com

Don’t miss BandSwap, a meeting of the musical minds making waves in the two metropolitan areas. The Alberta Rose Theatre plays host to hometown favorites The Quick and Easy Boys, who will share the stage with Fort Collins’ Musketeer Gripweed. Shake your tail feathers at this radical collaboration of feel-good rock and roll before the Boys travel to Colorado to reciprocate on the Mustakeer’s home turf.

Commemorate the stalwarts of our fair state’s musical legacy at this year’s Oregon Music Hall of Fame induction celebration. Recipients include pop-rock icons Quarterflash and Americana quartet Richmond Fontaine, who will perform live alongside The Kingsmen of “Louie, Louie” fame. Expect a packed house of musical royalty and share the love by bidding on rare autographed guitars in support of music education in Oregon schools.

A little suspense goes a long way in the weeks leading up to Halloween. Celebrate the spirit of the season at the NW Film Center’s Reel Music Festival 31, where live music will accompany “The Hitchcock 9”—screenings of Alfred Hitchcock’s restored silent films. Each evening of the festival, one film will be shown along with an original accompaniment played by a sampling of the city’s most talented musicians, including Tara Jane O’Neil, Three Leg Torso and the 1939 Ensemble.

Put a spin on your traditional Oktoberfest at Rocktoberfest, a gathering of rock n’ roll musicians and local vendors. For just $5 admission, attendees will rock out while sipping on cold beer, enjoying German food and supporting the Lincoln County chapter of RSVP, a retired and senior volunteer program.

The Oregon Coast Council for the Arts commemorates the tenth anniversary of its inimitable Jazz Party, a weekend-long festival of live contemporary jazz music. Each notable performer will appear in a variety of different combinations throughout the three-day event, led by session leaders Terell Stafford, Bruce Forman, Jackie Ryan and more. Expect masterful improvisation and mind-blowing collaborations.

The Fret Drifters will perform as a part of the Brittney Ride event before they go transatlantic in the New Year, when they head to Australia for their first international tour. For one night only, the Southern Oregon Repertory Singers present an evening exploring 500 years of British choral music. The concert also premieres Scottish folk compositions arranged by piano virtuoso Jodi French and accompanied by live bagpipe.

A consortium of the state’s most prolific pianists gathers as part of BendBroadband’s “Jazz at the Oxford” series for a three-performance showcase. Four virtuosos (Gordon Lee, Darrell Grant, Bend Darwish and Randy Palmer) will play a range of special arrangements orchestrated by Lee, a veteran composer and arranger.


Mount Hood/Gorge

The four-day celebration of Swiss and Bavarian culture returns to Oregon’s “Little Switzerland.” Immerse yourself in the region’s customary food and drink, entertainment, and performances by traditional and not-so-traditional acts. Stick around on Friday and Saturday nights to catch Portland’s DJ GlobalRuckus, who will be spinning German hip hop and dance music from 11 p.m. – 1 a.m.
