Lindsay Clark grew up in Nevada City, California. Music was in her house. Her parents both played instruments, but they were not musicians, she says. She was a different case. She took to music, playing piano and violin. Soon she decided that music was going to be her life’s pursuit and enrolled at Boston’s Berklee College of Music. After Berklee, she was drawn to the Portland music scene. “Being connected to nature was important to me,” says the 30-year-old singer-songwriter.

Her voice has an ethereal quality as if coming from a dream. Her songs are spare and poetic, often inspired by photos and images. She describes her style as “lyric-based folk music,” If it’s folk, it’s folk with angelic vocals washing over smooth edges.

Her new record, Begin, due out in September, will showcase Clark on banjo, guitar and harmonizing vocals. You can also catch her at Alberta Street Pub on August 20. Go to lindsayclark.bandcamp.com.
