Portland | Portland Dining Month | March 1-31

Throughout March, chefs from 121 restaurants in Portland create prix fix delights to showcase the city’s culinary offerings. Make your reservations now to garner a coveted spot at one of these tables. Each meal is $29, and features three courses prepared by the city’s top chefs.

Why it’s on our list: From the best burritos to the best breakfasts, we’re always on the lookout for what’s new in Oregon’s culinary scene.

Eastern Oregon | Anthony Lakes Snow Blast Competition and Fireworks | March 5

In Eastern Oregon, Anthony Lakes is a small ski resort that has terrific skiing terrain. On March 5, the resort will host a day of music—and keep the lifts open later than usual so you can take advantage of that extra spring daylight.

Why it’s on our list: It’s close to Baker City, which just happens to be one of our favorite winter towns in Oregon.

Coast | Savor Cannon Beach | March 10-13

At this year’s Savor Cannon Beach Culinary Festival, more than forty wineries will be on display at the wine walk, giving you the opportunity to try a variety of the world-class wines produced in the Pacific Northwest. The weekend festival will also highlight the growing art and culinary scenes on Oregon’s coast.

Why it’s on our list: Off-season at Cannon Beach is the best season.

Portland | IAAF World Championships | March 17-20

For the first time since the inaugural event in 1987, the IAAF World Indoor Championships will be held in the United States, and Portland was chosen as the host city. For four days, 600 athletes from 200 countries will compete for world titles and records in thirteen track and field events. Ashton Eaton, the 27-year-old Oregon athlete known holding the world record for the heptathlon, will compete again this year to defend his title. If you can’t make it to the events at the Oregon Convention Center, there will be a Fan Festival every day during the competition at Pioneer Square in downtown Portland.

Why it’s on our list: We’re big fans of Ashton Eaton.

Southern Oregon | Oregon Cheese Festival | March 18-19

At the Oregon Cheese Festival, hosted by Rogue Creamery, you’ll have the opportunity to taste cow, sheep and goat cheeses from around Oregon. The festival kicks off with a cheesemakers’ dinner on March 18, and will also feature pairings from Oregon wineries.

Why it’s on our list: We love Oregon-made cheese so much we just wrote about it in the new issue, on newsstands March 7.

Willamette Valley | Wooden Shoe Tulip Fest | March 25 – May 1

Take some time this spring to stop and smell the tulips at the annual Wooden Shoe Tulip Fest in Woodburn. More than forty acres of tulips are available to explore every day. Take the farm’s beauty home as a freshly-cut bouquet from the U-pick section, or buy bulbs and create own tulip garden at home. There’s also authentic Dutch food on site, but you can also bring your own picnic basket and eat lunch among the flowers, with Mt. Hood as your backdrop.

Why it’s on our list: There’s a lot to explore near Woodburn.
