Allison Inn & Spa

When visiting the Willamette Valley’s wine country, often the hardest decision isn’t where to go tasting or dining but where to rest your head after all the sipping and supping. Sure there are a few inexpensive motels around, but with several distinctive and romantic accommodations, why not make it a more memorable experience? Here are some of my favorites:

Le Puy Inn, one of the newest places in the valley to spend the night, is a luxurious yet down to earth B&B offering eight elegantly appointed rooms featuring Feng Shui themes like Fire, Water, Mountain and—my personal favorite—Heaven. Rates, which include breakfast, start at $265 per night. Guests can choose from a variety of rooms equipped with a Temper-Pedic bed. Other options range from a pet-friendly bed for your furry friend to an outdoor soaking tub for two, overlooking the valley and vineyards. At Le Puy, there is a focus on sustainability in every element, from the linens and soaps to the delicious food, some of which comes right from their backyard garden. www.lepuy-inn.com

Finish your day of tasting at Stoller Vineyards in Dundee. Knowing you made a reservation and can just stroll over to one of three fully-furnished guesthouses will make your libations taste that much better. Their “Country Cottage” sleeps up to four ($395 per night), the “Estate House” sleeps six ($495 per night) and the “Wine Farm House” sleeps up to eight ($545 per night). Each house comes outfitted with, among other amenities, a bottle of wine and a free tasting tour for your group. Become a Stoller Wine Club member and you will receive free tastings any time you visit, great deals on wine, and you’ll also walk away with a discount on your stay. https://www.stollerfamilyestate.com/Experience/Guest-Houses/Estate-House

It would be remiss of me not to mention the wonderful Allison Inn and Spa. The place is elegance at its wine country finest. The facility itself, situated on 35 acres in Newberg, is nestled just outside the hubbub of town, framed by sophisticated architectural lines, graced by pristine walking paths and complimented by a vegetable garden which supplies the on-site restaurant. Each room is an oasis of comfort with soft blankets, large fireplaces and deep tubs in every room. Need to take a break from wine tasting? Head to the spa where you can get massaged, facial-ed and generally groomed from head to toe. With 85 rooms starting at $430 per night, The Allison Inn and Spa is worth every one of your well-earned pennies. www.theallison.com

If none of these options strike your fancy, there are many other wonderful places to choose from. My other top picks include: Youngberg Hill B&B which overlooks the rolling vineyards of McMinnville, the Italian villa-inspired Black Walnut Inn in Dundee, Abby Road B&B where you can spend the night in a refurbished grain silo, and McMenamins Hotel Oregon right in the heart of the Willamette Valley’s gastro hot spot, downtown McMinnville. All are great choices. I leave you for now with these possibilities to explore for yourself. Happy searching, sleeping, sipping, supping and all the rest.
