Portland Opera presents Gluck’s Orfeo ed Euridice

07/27/2018 - 08/04/2018

7:30 pm - 10:00 pm

Newmark Theatre

Witness the transformative power of love and music.

Revisit one of the oldest stories ever told in this mythological journey. The wedding of Orfeo and Euridice ends tragically when she is bitten by a snake and dies. Heartbroken, Orpheus travels to the underworld. Armed with only his lyre, he must charm the furies of Hades, ghosts of the dead, and a three-headed dog before he can try to bring her back to the world of the living. We’ll celebrate Gluck’s beloved opera with thousands of rose petals, a full chorus, and a ballet.

Sung in Italian with projected English translations above the stage.

Performance Schedule: July 27, 29, 31 Aug 2, 4

The performance on July 29 at 2pm will include a live audio description of the visual and physical events on stage for patrons who are blind or have low vision. For patrons who are deaf or hard of hearing, each performance is visually translated with English text projected above the stage.

Tickets start at $35.
