Oregon Repertory Singers concludes its 44th season with Handel’s Israel in Egypt, a seldom performed oratorio that rivals Handel’s more prevalent Messiah in its majesty and import. Orchestra, soloists, and double chorus join in this powerful retelling of the Passover story from the Old Testament, one of the oldest immigration stories known to man. Israel in Egypt takes audiences on a cultural and emotional journey, following the Israelites on their difficult path from suffering to salvation. Handel’s inimitable style and exceptional talent for storytelling are on full display in this rare performance of one of his greatest choral-orchestral masterpieces.
Oregon Repertory Singers is a partner in the Oregon Symphony’s Sounds of Home initiative, using music and art to reflect on critical issues facing our community including homelessness, the environment, and immigration. ORS presents Israel in Egypt on the theme of immigration.
