Grab a few friends. Pack film equipment (which can be your iPhone). Get to Lear’s Pub & Grill in Enterprise by 6:30 p.m. on November 13. Receive instructions to make a movie within 48 hours. Screen your film to an audience on November 15. Potentially win an award.

Why it’s on our list: We’re big fans of independent filmmaking in Oregon.

 

Southern Oregon | Festival of Lights & Holiday Village

Did you know Oregon is home to the world’s largest Nutcracker? Neither did we. You can see it in Roseburg starting on November 22, when the annual Festival of Lights & Holiday Village opens for the season. The holiday event features animated light displays as well as wagon rides and a village to stroll through with arts and crafts, warm drinks and treats.

Why it’s on our list: We love road trips, and we believe that they aren’t just for the summer.

 

Willamette Valley | Thanksgiving in Wine Country

Thanksgiving in the wine country is an Oregon tradition. Most wineries and vineyards throughout Oregon offer tasting specials over Thanksgiving weekend. We provide you with the ultimate guide to a wine country Thanksgiving wherever you are in the state.

Why it’s on our list: We’re still looking for the perfect Oregon wines to pair with our holiday meals this year.

Portland | Wordstock

Wordstock is back. Literary Arts has re-launched Portland’s book festival that originated in 2005. This year, Wordstock will be a one-day event held at the Portland Art Museum. There will be discussions with authors, writing workshops and shelves full of books to purchase from Powell’s. 

Why it’s on our list: More than 100 contemporary writers will be at the event, which means that we’re bound to run into our favorites.

 

Oregon Coast | Lincoln City Chowder Cook-Off

For $5, you get unlimited tastings from seven restaurants at this two-day chowder festival on the coast. There will also be local brews, wine and live music to enjoy while you taste and vote for the best chowder. 

Why it’s on our list: To be able to say that we’ve tasted the best chowder on the Oregon coast.

 

Central Oregon | Tough By Nature Exhibit at the High Desert Museum
