Five of our faves for hot toddies and warm drinks this winter

Let’s face it…the shopping, the rain, the traffic has left us all a little pent up. Our remedy? Let’s bring it down with one (or two) of these warm drinks, hot toddies.

Hot Buttered Rum

Hot rum in the coolest bar in town? Raven & Rose’s upstairs Rookery Bar is one of those locales you can hang in for hours and leave feeling like you’ve had a warm massage. The candles, the couch, the fireplace makes the ambience a “10” and the hot buttered rum, made with gold rum, Irish butter, and Baird Family fresh-pressed cider, doubles down.

Spanish Coffee

This is where we say Huber’s, right? While they deserve every bit of love, for they are, in fact, the Barnum & Bailey’s to any other circus show of Spanish Coffee’s, we submit that Huber’s has nothing on our man Joe at Jake’s Famous Crawfish. Bartender Joe has been commander in chief behind the bar for decades, and his Spanish Coffee, with a flawless fired sugar rim and a delectable whipped topping that tastes like perfectly burnt marshmallow, will leave visions of sugar plums dancin’ in head.

#wokeuplikethis

Honestly, you should order it just for the name. The Sapphire Hotel’s sexy list of cocktails in a sexy setting with sexy bartenders makes you feel, well, not so pent up anymore. At $10 a pop, the expansive cocktail list beckons you to have more than one, and the #wokeuplikethis, with brandy, creme de cacao and coffee, will warm your belly, no questions asked.

Buzzin’ Hot

It’s the perfect secret hideaway. The Driftwood Room inside Hotel Deluxe Portland is the ideal retreat on a dark, stormy night. The billing ‘sinful, sensational, spirits’ fits well, and the Buzzin’ Hot, made with Dewar’s scotch, ginger, and Lagavulin rinse is the bomb. Add the Bee Local honey, artisan hyper-local honey produced from bee hives on the hotel roof, and you will be buzzed…and hot.

Bourbon Furnace

All the aforementioned bars are seductive joints to venture out sans kids, but what if you want a warm cocktail after a long day with the kiddos in tow? Raleigh Hills Pub has parking for all, taters for tots, and a Bourbon Furnace waiting for you, made with hot apple cider, fresh lemon juice and Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey. If you need a cold one to wash that down, the Kris Kringle brew is only available a few more days and highly recommended.
