Today, 1859 Magazine got the first look at the official designs for the James Beard Public Market (JBPM). Director of the JBPM project, Ron Paul, released the renderings, and the result is breathtaking. Plans for the new downtown food hub and cultural center have been fifteen years in the making and tomorrow’s JBPM Grand Reveal at OMSI will highlight the details of the designs.

The market, which will be located at the west end of the Morrison Bridge in downtown Portland, was designed by the esteemed Snøhetta architecture and design firm. The two-floor, multi-purpose structures will be built on either side of bridge head in lots that are currently used for parking.

Designs for the indoor-outdoor JBPM include two market halls with more than 100 vendors, restaurants, and a kitchen for public cooking and nutrition classes.

The opening of the James Beard Public Market is projected for spring of 2018.
