Fresh from the Sea

Hungry for some really fresh seafood? For seafood lovers, there is nothing better than feasting on fresh catch from the ocean, and the Oregon Coast spoils us with a bounty of options.

Bowpicker

Fresh off a boat and served from a boat, the fish and chips at Bowpicker is a siren’s song for those craving freshly caught fish. Ron and Linda Ford launched Bowpicker in 2000 before food carts were a “thing,” serving Ron’s daily catch of albacore tuna—beer-battered, hand-breaded, then fried up one order at a time—from an old fishing boat perched on Duane Street in Astoria. No need to be discouraged by the daily line of customers you’ll find from the time they open until they run out of fish. It’s there for a reason, and it’s worth the wait.

Bandon Fish Market

Alder-smoked Pacific salmon chowder or salmon fish and chips? Yes, please! Bandon is known internationally for its golf, but visitors and locals know the true star of Bandon is the Bandon Fish Market. It’s a great place to pick up fresh fish for dinner or fuel up on chowder in a sourdough bread bowl for lunch on the deck before hitting the green.
