Grill master Clint Melville runs Rip City Grill with one goal in mind: to give the highest value possible and make everything straight from the heart. To ensure this sentiment is served to every customer, he is the only one working the cart. As he says, “It sounds corny, but I really do put love into every single thing I make. I want people to come away thinking that was the best sandwich they have ever had.” He also understands that to feel value is to get more than what you paid for, so each sandwich, salad and side is priced incredibly low for the amount of delicious food you receive.

To guarantee satisfaction, all meals are made to order. Feel free to mix and match any ingredient he has. Because of his endearing personality, Clint will probably remember your specialized sandwich and whip it up in less than ten minutes. For a first time visit, try the Tri Tip Steak Sandwich ($6.75): a toasted roll drizzled in garlic butter and filled with six ounces of dry rubbed tri tip steak. Add BBQ sauce and some cheese. Or, for only $1.00 more, add a “style” to your sandwich. The most popular is the Bacon and Blue: blue cheese, maple bacon and sautéed onions. For spice lovers, add the El Caliente style: sautéed onions and jalapenos, topped with a slice of pepper jack cheese. If you’re feeling like something a little lighter, go for the Tri Tip Steak Salad ($6.75): a bed of organic mixed greens with sautéed onions, tomato, avocado and blue cheese that is drizzled with olive oil and balsamic with a hearty portion of steak on top. Add any extra ingredient to your meal for $.50. Rip City Grill also offers chicken and burgers as well as Portobello mushrooms for those who want something vegetarian.

Each meal is grilled to perfection with just the right amount of tenderness and of course, love. With lots of picnic tables and a very nice park on the next block over, The Moody Ave Food Dock invites you to stay a while. Located in the South Waterfront, this cart is a hidden gem pocketed in a fairly unknown Portland area. But hop on the streetcar just a few minutes out of the city center and this place may just become a weekly stop, with satisfaction guaranteed.

Bonus: Rip City Grill is open to catering at any type of event and has done so with groups from 30 people to 450.
