The Best Dinner and Wine Pairings at Portland Dining Month

What better way to enjoy the plethora of outstanding restaurants participating in Portland Dining Month than to pair each offered course with a mind-blowing glass of vino? In a first-ever collaborative effort, a number of Oregon wineries are partnering with eighteen Portland restaurants during dining month. Each of the restaurants is on the “Oregon Wine A-List”—a designation given by Oregon Wine Press to restaurants that show a particular commitment to serving Oregon wine. At each locale, customized wine flights will be available with each dish. March on!


Pazzo Ristorante and Coopers Hall

Pazzo Ristorante offers a mouthwatering trio of courses for just $29 in March, and Coopers Hall is providing the perfect pairings: a 2014 Alexeli chardonnay with grilled winter vegetables, an Applegate Valley cabernet franc to sip alongside pan-roasted Chinook salmon, and a Gold Vineyard malbec to finish with a salted caramel dotted vanilla bean gelato.

Jo Bar & Rotisserie and Division Winemaking Company

Jo Bar & Rotisserie is one of our favorite go-to places for the location, location, location. Settled in the heart of NW 23rd, Jo Bar has one of the best happy hours in town and a note-worthy wine and cocktail list. The three-course March menu includes an asparagus bisque with smoked salmon, roasted and smoked Carlton Farm pork loin and a choice of any dessert, each married with wines from Division Winemaking Company.

Oba Restaurante and Argyle

Oba is the idyllic after-work landing spot, and in March, our suggestion is to stay for dinner. The Portland Dining Month menu is a thoughtful departure from the traditional offerings of other participating restaurants: think kale salad with jalapeño-Manchego dressing, lamb meatballs and empanadas for dessert. Then there is the partnership with Argyle—widely lauded as an Oregon favorite—that moves Oba into top five places to visit this month.

Davis Street Tavern and Sokol Blosser

If you haven’t yet experienced Davis Street Tavern, March is the time to check it off your list. One of only eighteen restaurants to garner the “Oregon Wine A-List” honor (out of the 120 participating in dining month), the Tavern’s Oregon cachet is further solidified now that Sokol Blosser is its winery counterpart for the month-long event. The menu is straightforward, with a butter lettuce start, a choice of four entreés and a conclusion featuring chocolate truffles.

RingSide Steakhouse and Adelsheim Vineyard

Any time you can eat at the iconic RingSide Steakhouse for $29, do it. That price tag is a steal of a deal for the impeccable service and tuxedoed ambience that guarantees a special evening. Adelsheim Vineyard is a perfect match to RingSide’s baked onion soup, steak medallions with garlic mash and Madagascar vanilla bean creme brûlée. A side of onion rings is always recommended here.
