Oregon-designed patterns to instantly add character

Willem Hendrik Design might be based in Bend, but they draw inspiration for their wallpaper designs from all over the world. Such is why the patterns evoke everything from the ocean blue hues of Capri and pink leopard motifs via Palm Springs to the Art Deco buildings of Miami. Our favorite is the PNW Retreat (pictured), complete with rainbow hues and nods to fly-fishing.
Helmed by Avery Thatcher, the eponymous Portland design studio Thatcher will always surprise, delight and evolve in their takes on modern wallpaper. For example, there’s the new Midnight Troupe line (pictured), inspired by Italian filmmaker Federico Fellini, and the faded glow of a circus closing down for the night.
Portland-based Kate Blairstone’s collection by Manolo Walls reveals a colorful, maximalist take on uncommon plant motifs. Consider these picks: large-scale Tetrapanax leaves interspersed with light pink Chilean bellflowers, psychedelic shitake mushrooms (pictured) and a striking “ode to the artichoke.”
In Portland, out of a 1911 commercial building painted black on SE Belmont Street, Makelike design studio creates an array of unique and covetable wallpaper designs that “express whatever is inspiring them at the moment.” That might be their first pattern, representing cacti and succulents, or a recent release, called Wave (pictured), which reinterprets vintage flour sack prints.
