Founded in late 1892, the Portland Art Museum is the seventh oldest museum in the United States and the oldest in the Pacific Northwest.
The mission of the Portland Art Museum is to engage the public with art and film of enduring quality, to facilitate dialogue with diverse audiences, and to collect, preserve, and educate for the enrichment of present and future generations.
From the first acquisition in 1895 to the donation of Vincent van Gogh’s The Ox-Cart in 2007, the Museum’s extensive collection has grown to include thousands of works, many of which were gifts from Museum founders and generous members of our community.
