Oregon State University quarterback Ryan Katz and University of Oregon quarterback Darron Thomas make predictions for the 2011 football season in our Autumn 2011 Athlete Profile. While Katz believes his team has something to prove, Thomas hopes to be in the national championship. Either way, both hope to come out winners.

QUARTERBACK, OREGON STATE UNIVERSITY

Best memory from the 2010 season?

Beating Arizona on the road, #7 in the nation at the time. Big win for the program.

What are your goals for the season for both you and the team?

Our goal is to win every game. Any competitive teams out there would say the same thing. I just want to win.

You threw for 2,386 yards last year and finished 72nd in national efficiency rankings. Can you improve on that with this year’s team?

Yeah, definitely. This is a new year, new team and having a year of experience under my belt will help me and the team.

You broke your wrist in a closely contested Civil War last year at Autzen Stadium. What happens on November 26th this year?

If that’s a Saturday, we will have prepared all week to win that week’s game, as we do every week.

In what post-season bowl will the Beavers be playing?

I don’t predict the future, but I can tell you, this is a hardworking, determined football team with something to prove.

QUARTERBACK, UNIVERSITY OF OREGON

Best memory from the 2010 season?

Winning the Pac 10.

What are your goals for the season for both you and the team?

My goals for this season are to win another conference championship and to just stay undefeated for the rest of this season.

You threw for 2,881 yards last year and finished 17th in national quarterback rankings. Can you improve on that this year?

Oh yeah, we’ve got a lot of room to grow. There were a lot of missed passes last year that I have to improve on to earn a higher passer rating.

What happens on November 26th this year in the Civil War?

Oregon comes out with a win and then wins the Pac 12 for the first time.

In what post-season bowl will the Ducks be playing?

Hopefully the national championship, but maybe the Rose Bowl. A national championship is my first goal.
