It takes a special kind of magic to transform three seriously dilapidated, adjacent buildings from 1911, 1913 and 1913 respectively into a stylish boutique hotel. That was the task architect Paul Falsetto faced as he designed the elegant Inn at Dayton, which opened in June 2025. The project required blending the Bank of Dayton, the Stuckey Building and the Harris Building, and Falsetto seamlessly merged them into a polished, twelve-room inn spread over 20,000 square feet.
Guests can choose between upscale legacy rooms or heritage (standard) rooms, but its worth the splurge at this inn. The legacy rooms feature 20-foot ceilings, dual-sided electric fireplaces separating the sleeping quarters from the living rooms, and deca-dently comfortable furniture adorned with soft throws and high thread count linens. Perfect for a romantic retreat or a weekend of wine tasting with friends, the rooms are an oasis of calm, peace and good taste. They merge a modern aesthetic with the historic character of the buildings, and the blend is thoughtfully executed such that guests never feel like they’re in an old space. Rather, the interiors feel fresh, contemporary and luxurious, making this an inn that’s hard to leave.
AMENITIES
Great touches at the inn include a wireless iron, motion-activated heated towel racks in the bathrooms and quality Makari Le Bosquet bathing products. Rooms feature Nespresso coffee machines, tea, an electric kettle, a wine fridge and robes and slippers.
DINING
Guests choose their in-room breakfast the night before from a menu that includes yogurt, locally made pastries, cheese, fresh fruit and charcuterie, delivered to the room at a prearranged time the next morning. From 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. daily, guests head to the inn’s wine lounge for complimentary local wine tastings and charcuterie.
HISTORY
The three buildings that house The Inn at Dayton had served several purposes in Dayton since the early 1900s. For two of the structures, their spacious second floors had accommodated the ceremonies of fraternal organizations like the Masons and Oddfellows. Their reconstruction, which began in 2023, included complicated seismic upgrades to the same precise standards required of new buildings. Take the stairs to the second floor, and a red brick wall on one side is a stark reminder that the conjoined, artfully connected buildings were once separate entities.

Include a splashy dinner at the Joel Palmer House, a couple of blocks from the inn. This is a special, white-tablecloth establishment with a rich history and a menu laden with delicious culinary surprises. The farm-to-table fare makes for an innovative, unforgettable and extravagant celebration.
