Jupiter NEXT Edgy Style Meets Luxury

Jupiter NEXT, a sleek six-story stunner that embraces that same edgy local style, but with luxurious touches

written by Jen Stevenson

Jupiter NEXT is the latest Jupiter team project. Since 2004, the Jupiter Hotel has been the inner eastside’s main boutique hotel squeeze, providing a uniquely Portland experience with its eclectic design, wildly popular basement music venue and lively Doug Fir Lounge (hence the earplugs on every nightstand). This summer, the Jupiter team debuts its latest project, Jupiter NEXT is a six-story hotel in Portland with lots of modern amenities like 60-inch flat screens, glass-cube bathrooms and in-room digital concierges. The 67-room, Works Progress Architecture-designed hotel’s location couldn’t be more prime. Portland’s inner eastside is hotter than ever, and while it’s easy to hop on a downtown-bound bus or the Portland streetcar, there’s really no reason to leave the neighborhood. After dinner, grab a rummy nightcap at the jungle-themed hotel restaurant and bar, Hey Love, or head back to your room and mix a cocktail in the in-room bar, relax in your private living room, and take in the big views of the downtown Portland skyline before heading to bed—earplugs optional.

bar areas and cocktail kits, living areas with convertible sofas and oversized windows with grand views of downtown Portland. Speaking of which, watch the summer sun set over the West Hills from the hotel’s beautiful guests-only open air lounge on the fifth floor.

FEATURES
Modern conveniences abound— guests are greeted by self check-in kiosks, enjoy the ease of keyless room entry, and can direct any questions
to the curated Roxy digital concierge systems installed in each room. For business travelers and party planners, there are five event spaces, from the 2,550-square-foot ballroom to the 450-square-foot boardroom, all serviced by a full on-site catering kitchen. Each floor has a “fresh-air patio,” with views of the second-floor garden.

DINING
The hotel’s jungle-themed restaurant and bar, Hey Love, is helmed by local industry veterans Emily Mistell (Rum Club), Sophie Thomson (Mississippi Studios, Bar Bar, Revolution Hall), and Dig A Pony co-owners Aaron Hall and Nick Musso. Should guests wish to explore the local restaurant scene, it’s not far—James Beard Award-winning chef Gabriel Rucker’s esteemed Le Pigeon, and newly opened Canard, are a block away. Expand your radius to two blocks and find local favorites Nong’s Khao Man Gai, Mirakutei and Burnside Brewing Company.

AMENITIES
Portland-based photographic collagist Beth Kerschen created the Portland- inspired headboards for each bed, while local fabric designers Seek & Swoon crafted the brightly patterned knit throws from recycled cotton yarn. Metal fabricationist Laura Sol
of Sol Creations, whose prior projects include the elaborate wire wall sconces inside the historic Bagdad Theater, built the signature metal staircase connecting the first and second floors. Should all this creativity inspire, leave your own artistic mark on your room’s chalkboard door.
