They say the worst day on the water is better than any day in the office, unless that day involves a near-death experience. Enter Alex Fox, a professional kiteboarder, who lives life to the fullest and sometimes at a cost. Fox, who has been kiteboarding half of his life, said the sport is as demanding as it is fulfilling.

“When you have a great kite session, your whole life seems perfect and poised for greatness,” Fox said. “When you have a bad one, you really struggle to see the good.”

The 26 year old splits his time between Oregon and Florida, chasing the wind as many professional kiteboarders do. He also travels the world for photo shoots. In the last year, he’s kiteboarded in Australia, Mauritius, Brazil, the United States, the British Virgin Islands, Panama, Cayman Islands and China.

Just like the rivers and oceans he rides and the wind he relies on, Fox remains partial to water as the key component of his nutrition. “I just listen to my body. Nutrition is key, but I don’t really set a regimen. The most consistent part of my diet is water,” he said. “As I’ve gotten older, I’ve learned the importance of hydration. I start drinking water from the moment I wake up to when I go to bed.”

Spending life on the move makes it difficult for Fox to stick to a specific diet, so he concentrates on feeding his soul. “I think having a healthy mind and approach to life really reflects and helps all other aspects of my life,” he said.
