 or the Phi Beta Kappa Visiting Scholar Lecture with Dr. Jamshee Choksy on 
 Thursday\, Feb. 7 at 7 p.m. in the Memorial Union Horizon Room (49) at Ore
 gon State University. Choksy's talk will be on "The Spread of Islam: New W
 ays of Understanding Conquest and Confessional Change in Iraq\, Iran and C
 entral Asia."\nDr. Jamsheed Choksy is Distinguished Professor and Chair of
  Central Eurasian Studies at Indiana University\, Bloomington. Choksy’s 
 writings and lectures explore why human existence is often viewed as a str
 uggle between good and evil\, and how beliefs and religious practices shap
 e our actions. A leading academic authority on the Arab conquest of Iran\,
  Iraq\, the Persian Gulf and Central Asia\, as well as the spread of Islam
 \, Choksy will discuss the impact of faith on politics\, international rel
 ations and security.\nIn 2016\, Oregon State University installed the Epsi
 lon of Oregon Phi Beta Kappa chapter\, the 286th chapter in the nation. OS
 U is one of a small number of public institutions to have achieved this di
 stinction. Since 1956\, the Phi Beta Kappa Visiting Scholar Program has be
 en offering undergraduates the opportunity to spend time with some of Amer
 ica's most distinguished scholars. The purpose of the program is to contri
 bute to the intellectual life of the campus by making possible an exchange
  of ideas between the Visiting Scholars and the resident faculty and stude
