07/21/2017 - 07/23/2017
2017 will be the 5th Annual Newberry Event Music and Art Festival to Defeat MS, a 3-day summer outdoor concert series, well known as a good time for a good cause. Excited to announce Lukas Nelson and Promise of the Real (POTR) headliningSaturday night, July 22nd!! The “COWBOY HIPPIE SURF ROCK” band has backed Neil Young on the road and in the studio. They’re opening for Sheryl Crow in NYC in June, and will play elsewhere this summer with his dad, Willie Nelson. Growing in recognition and attendance each year, the Newberry Event, JULY 21, 22, 23, feels like a big private party.
This is a limited ticketed event, on rural private property in beautiful Central Oregon, south of the Sunriver Resort. Multiple Sclerosis keeps people from moving; come rock out and dance for those who can’t. Tent-camping is FREE, in open fields or shady pines, and encouraged so you don’t miss a thing. Limited RV sites also available. Multiple Sclerosis is a mysterious neurological and autoimmune disease that damages brain and spinal cord nerve cells. Chronic, and typically progressive, disease symptoms may include numbness, speech impairment, blurred vision, severe fatigue, and disabled muscular coordination. Gloria Watt has battled MS for over 30 years. She and her husband, Doug, say, “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade!” So, with the help of many Central Oregon business sponsors and volunteers, they created the nonprofit Newberry Event specifically to raise awareness and research funds for this thus-far incurable disease. Net proceeds benefit the Oregon National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
The festival features nearly two dozen live music acts, with some of the best talent from the Northwest and beyond, representing myriad genres—rock, blues, reggae, jazz, folk, and more. Music plays from 10 a.m., to 10 p.m. on two stages. The family-friendly event (kids under 13 FREE), has a country-fair atmosphere with many Pacific Northwest vendors selling a variety of handcrafted works. A silent auction of these products, plus sales from the great food vendors, local craft beers, Kombucha, distillery, and wine tasting, all help raise money for the cause.
