The joyous and uplifting musical voices of Ladysmith Black Mambazo has been powerfully invoking the soul of South Africa for over forty years. Referred to by Nelson Mandela as “South Africa’s cultural ambassadors”, Ladysmith Black Mambazo marries the intricate rhythms and harmonies of Zulu traditions to the sounds and sentiments of gospel music, combining powerful choruses and softer, almost whispering chants where voices blend harmoniously, with tightly-choreographed dance moves. The result is a musical and spiritual alchemy that has touched a worldwide audience, from their collaboration with Paul Simon on his 1986 Graceland album to their Grammy-nominated 2016 album Walking in the Footsteps of our Fathers.
