You are invited to attend a FREE community workshop about planning for financial aid. If you have a high school student (regardless of their graduation year) you are encouraged to attend. The purpose of the workshop is to dispel misinformation about how the aid system works.
Here is some of what will be covered:
A local Portland area family earning over $300K per year, got over $250K in needs based financial aid. That is aid that is based strictly on finances, and does not have to be repaid. How did they do it? (And no, they didn’t pay anyone off, and yes, it’s completely legal. They got it because they took the time to learn how the system works, and what it rewards).
If you plan to send a student to college in the next 3 years, congratulations! You will be able to take advantage of a situation that hasn’t come along in a long time, and will go away shortly.
Why are colleges charging so much? Where is all that money supposed to come from?
Following conventional wisdom about how to pay for college can cause you to lose significant eligibility for aid. How is that, and why?
When should someone start planning for ways to improve financial aid?
There will be a Q&A session at the conclusion of each workshop.
