Steve Carlson leads an expedition to explore the geology of Mt. Hood, Saturday, June 17, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Meet at 8:45 a.m. at the front entrance of the Columbia Gorge Discovery Center, 5000 Discovery Drive.
Carlson is a Northwest native and a retired professor of geology. As an excursion leader, he is enthusiastic, informed and will bring new understanding to the beauty of our geologic environment.
The Earth Science Rocks! geology tour visits Mt. Hood. Learn about history, geology, processes and features. There will be stops at Panorama Point, Eliot Creek Lahar, White River Outwash Valley, and the Timberline Lodge area. Includes a hike to the Ghost Forest overlooking the White River drainage and identification of the geologic historical features.
The fee is $50 and includes a box lunch and bottled water. Reserve your place by making a $25 deposit by June 13, by calling 541-296-8600 ext. 201.
